Intergenerational Projects

These are the thoughts of a young teenager after her experience of working on an Intergenerational Project with Sefton O.P.E.R.A. Older Persons Project

My Story By Megan

Six weeks ago I was asked to join a group of other young people aged 13-14 to work with older people using massage.  At first I thought it would be quite good but when I got to meet Jeff and Ann the tutors I was very nervous.  We learnt the massage’s at school then we went to the David Brown Day Centre.

The first week at David Brown Centre was very scary but by the time I got talking to one of the older men I got very interested in this project.  I talked to him about how things are different to when he was younger and how they are now.  Then we were talking about his life it was very interesting he was in one of the wars.

The second week I was still nervous going in to David Brown Centre.  The man was not there that week but me and my friend Emma got talking to two women named Alice and Mary.  They were very nice to us and we talked about the people who worked in the centre, they said all of the people were very nice and caring.  This gave me the thought of working as a carer when I get older.   So I have come out with more of a thought about what I want to do when I leave school.

After being taught to do the massage I feel confident to do more work and be with older people. Now I feel there is no difference in young and older people there is just more of a story to their lives.
