Opera now has three groups’ regularly entertaining older persons – · Memory Lane — our “Show Band”, performing old-time songs, encouraging participation with a roving mic and with guest appearances from volunteers impersonating stars from the past. · Days Gone By — our reminiscence duo, singing old-time songs, encouraging participation, conversation and memories with props, pictures and stories of yesteryear. · Remember When! - our latest trio, performing a variety of music from not so long ago. They encourage interaction and jamming sessions for professionals and amateurs alike. |

We have some ex-professional singers and many gifted amateurs, many of who like to dress up as stars of the past. We have our own versions of Elvis ,“Bing”, Marlene Detrich and The Andrews Sisters. Reminiscence & Recall is so important to the older person. |

Remember When! |

|
It is often easier to remember things from the distant past than what happened yesterday, particularly if it involves dementia. Things like ‘whip & top’, washboards, all help to keep the mind active and promote conversation. A good sing-along to the old tunes, lifts the spirits and you can be ‘young again’ if only for a few minutes. |
